Lab 23 was used as a generator coach for the POP-Train and Hastings Coach (Lab 4) tests. It was in BR Blue/Grey originally and was known as 'The BG' at the time. It was then re-painted in the R&DD Blue/Red scheme before being re-painted once more in the later R&DD red and beige livery as seen in the photos.
