Testing on BR in the 1950's and 60's

In the early days of British Railways testing was carried out by the various regional organisations set up by the original companies and following nationalisation this continued until the Railway Technical Centre was built at Derby in 1964.

The London Midland Region had their testing organisation at Nelson Street adjacent to the railway station in Derby.

Here is a selection of the various types of testing undertaken during the early days of the BR modernisation scheme.
